About Ascent

Ascent is ISOFT’s premier two-month research internship program designed to nurture and mentor talented undergraduate and master’s students across India. Interns work under faculty mentors on focused research problems in Software Engineering and related domains.

Program Objectives

  • Enable students to gain hands-on research experience in software engineering.
  • Foster collaboration between academia, research labs, and students.
  • Encourage high-quality research outcomes, including publications in top venues.

Internship Details

Duration: 2 months (flexible between May 1 and July 31)
Stipend: INR 50,000 (for the entire duration of the internship, paid on successful completion)

Eligibility

  • Full-time student at an Indian institute.
  • B.Tech students: should be in their 3rd year (4-year degree) or 3rd/4th year (5-year degree).
  • M.Tech/M.S students: should have completed at least one year of coursework.
  • Final-year students graduating during the internship window or soon after the completion of the internship are not eligible. At least one semester should remain in the academic program..
  • A course in Software Engineering is preferred; strong programming foundation recommended.

Responsibilities

Student responsibilities

  • Work full-time with the assigned mentor for the internship duration.
  • Submit a final report summarizing the project.
  • Present the project at the ISOFT internship forum.

Mentor responsibilities

  • Define a clear project problem statement and resources.
  • Guide the intern through regular interactions.
  • Certify successful completion and notify ISOFT.

Recognition

Interns who complete Ascent receive an official ACM ISOFT Ascent Intern certificate and badge.

ISOFT may offer partial travel support for publications in top-tier venues (CORE A*), arising directly from internship work (conditions apply).
